The Boise Jazz Society (BJS) is seeking an Executive Director to function as the key leader, to oversee the production and presentation of annual seasons of jazz performances. This is a hands-on position with a small staff, contract assistance and volunteers. BJS may also employ an artistic advisor to assist with programming depending on the skills of the new Director.

Applicants with specific experience in the following areas are highly desired: non-profit arts organizations, production and presentation of live performances, education, personal musical performance, fund development, knowledge / appreciation of jazz. A bachelor’s degree is required (or equivalent experience) with arts training / experience preferred. Recent graduates will be considered.

Mission and Background

The Boise Jazz Society is a non profit organization originally formed as a partnership between the Boise community and Boise State University to support jazz performance, jazz education, and the promotion of jazz as a living American art form.

Goals for BJS are: raising awareness of jazz as an American art form; promoting live jazz performance in Boise; presenting world-class jazz concerts in an authentic, jazz-club environment; enhancing educational opportunities through lectures, workshops, and residencies; disseminating information on activities and developments in the world of jazz today.

In its 17-year history the Boise Jazz Society has consistently produced top-flight jazz performances and grown its season to include 6 concerts. Currently, approximately 300 season subscribers enjoy productions at the Riverside Hotel’s Sapphire Room. The BJS annual operating budget is roughly $150,000.

Artists typically perform two Sunday evening concerts followed by a master-class at Boise State University on Monday afternoon.

About Boise

Boise is the clean, thriving, cosmopolitan capital city of Idaho with a population of around 230,000. There is a very active arts scene along with abundant outdoor activities. A 25-mile greenbelt follows the Boise River through Boise State University campus and downtown.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors of the Boise Jazz Society and coordinates with the Artistic Advisor who books artists and programs the seasons.

Duties of the Executive Director are as follows:

· Ensure fulfillment of the BJS mission through programs, strategic planning, and community outreach.

· Enhance the image of BJS by being an active and visible community member and by working closely with other professional, civic, and private organizations, and by acting as the primary BJS spokesperson with constituents, the media, and the public.

· Manage and collaborate with staff, board, and volunteers. Oversee and activate appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are effective, efficient, and meet budgetary goals.

· Negotiate and process contracts and/or agreements for services from vendors, artists, agents, venues.

· Produce and execute direct mail, email, and social media content and patron engagement communications to support the programs and initiatives of BJS. Manage create and production of season programs, concert inserts, posters, mailers, and event flyers. Cultivate relationships with local press/media contacts.

· Conduct marketing of events and season subscriptions to build audience and meet revenue goals.

· Supervise ticketing, production, and house management of performances. Assist in developing pricing strategies to meet revenue goals.

· Lead donor cultivation activities and grant application processes in cooperation with the Board.

· Produce the annual budget in cooperation with the Board Treasurer, the Artistic Advisor, and the Finance Committee.

· Regularly communicate with the Board of Directors all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make timely, appropriate decisions.

Coordinate with the Board Treasurer and accounting firm to provide accurate, monthly financial reports to the Board.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
