Job Description
The Hope College Education Department invites applications for a tenure-track position in Special Education, Learning Disabilities, beginning in the fall of 2025. We seek candidates prepared to teach classes focusing on (1) characteristics of students with Learning Disabilities, (2) teaching elementary and secondary students with Learning Disabilities, (3) assessment, (4) data-driven Instruction, (5) evidence-based practices, and (6) the IEP process. Preference will be given to individuals with experience working with students with Learning Disabilities.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate special education courses, advising teacher candidates, locating and supervising clinical experiences, and fostering positive relationships and partnerships in area schools and private programs in the Greater Holland and Grand Rapids Communities. Active participation in departmental and college activities is expected.
Qualifications
General qualifications include a valid teaching certificate, a record of excellence in teaching and scholarly/creative activity, experience in and a commitment to diversity in education, knowledge, and skills in assessment, application of technology for instruction, and effective interpersonal and communication skills. The candidate selected for this position will demonstrate expertise and knowledge of special education curriculum and have teaching experience with students with Emotional Impairments/Behavioral Disorders.
To be considered for this position, candidates must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D., focused teaching expertise in a special education setting, a research agenda, and proven program leadership skills. Preference will be given to individuals with extensive and recent PK-12 special education teaching experiences.

Physical Demands
This position requires remaining in a sitting or standing position for frequent periods of time; uses office machinery such as a computers, printers, copy machines; Occasionally involves moving items over 10 pounds; frequently will move between different offices/workspaces/buildings; and requires effective communication abilities.
