The Financial Aid Officer works in a professional team environment to provide superior customer service, educational financing information and counseling to students, applicants, and families. Provides technical and administrative expertise for financial aid office processes.

Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- 2 years of experience in student services.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in financial aid administration.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Demonstrated technical skills including report creation, the use of databases and software systems.
- Outstanding time management and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Highly organized, collegial and service-oriented.
- Initiative, ability to think logically, sound judgment, organizational, and planning skills.
- Experience handling confidential information and data.
- Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in financial aid systems and administration.
- Knowledge of federal and institutional policy regarding and regulations governing financial aid compliance.
- Fluency in a second language in wide use is strongly preferred.

Key Accountabilities
Description
Financial Aid Counselor: Uses specialized knowledge of both Dartmouth and federal financing programs to counsel students in both undergraduate and graduate programs; provides expertise, judgement, and analysis to resolve problems and discrepancies; provides students and their families with general financial aid questions, including those concerning student bills, posting of aid, check-in difficulties, and financial problems related to acclimation to a different culture. Revises financial aid awards for D-Plan pattern changes, outside scholarships, loan declines, etc.; assists in review and final approval of financial aid awards and revisions.

Systems and Reporting: Works with the FAO team through maintenance, testing, utilization, and modification of computer software and hardware in FAO; researches and organizes data for use in reports and routine projects for the Director of Financial Aid and performs data collection for office reporting needs; designs report format and develops data queries and programs to respond to requests for information; provides technical and administrative expertise for office projects and processes such as application processes, federal funds verification, satisfactory academic progress, and office expense transaction review; runs and evaluates standard reports and processes on a regular basis such as error disbursement reports, check pattern, verification reports, EDE match reports, etc.
