The anticipated yearly salary range for this position is: $106,822 - $120,859 based on experience.
 

About the role:

The Dean of Arts and Sciences manages and leads an instructional area that includes the following programs within the Division of Instruction: Arts and Humanities, Math and Education, Social Sciences, Physical, Life, and Sport Sciences, and Honors. The Dean of Arts and Sciences supervises several direct reports, including: an administrative assistant, program chairs, faculty (full-time and adjunct), and instructional support staff. The Dean must be a service-oriented leader who is skilled in relationship and partnership building, as they will support instructional operations across multiple programs and sites, as well as establish and foster offsite opportunities. The Dean of Arts and Sciences must collaborate effectively and efficiently with other instructional deans: Dean of Access & Opportunity, Dean of Nursing & Allied Health, Dean of Workforce Trades & Transfer, Dean of Corrections Education, and Dean of Clarkston Campus.

Essential Functions:

  • The following functions and responsibilities will be accomplished by working with the Instructional Leadership Team, as well as chairs, coordinators, faculty, and staff in the Academic Transfer Area:

Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide college-wide transformative leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the Academic Transfer Area, in alignment with the institution’s mission and accrediting bodies.
  • Supervise and manage the following programs: Arts and Humanities, Math and Education, Social Sciences, Physical, Life, and Sport Sciences, and Honors.
  • Build cohesion between the Academic Transfer programs, creating wrap-around support for programs across divisions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships across areas and with community partners, such as local school district leaders, to ensure ongoing cooperation and collaboration.
  • Implement a continuous improvement culture that leverages course survey data, quality assurance feedback, faculty and instructor feedback, and other sources of input.
  • Establish and implement the Area’s mission, vision, and objectives to ensure alignment with the institution’s Strategic Plan.
  • Collaborate with the other instructional areas, i.e., Workforce, Nursing and Allied Health, Access & Opportunity, Corrections Education, and Clarkston Campus.
  • Manage, schedule, supervise, and evaluate all Area employees, i.e., faculty and staff; lead probationary and tenured-faculty evaluation committees
  • In collaboration with the Vice President of Instruction, develop and implement policies and procedures that lead to quality instruction and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and interagency regulations, e.g., the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA).
  • Provide leadership and guidance in the implementation and maintenance of Phi Theta Kapa, Undergraduate Research, and Honors.
  • Build relationships with faculty and staff to effectively and efficiently administer institutional projects, grants, and initiatives.
  • Participate in and provide professional development opportunities for faculty and staff in the Academic Transfer Area.

Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Prepare recommendations for and administer the area’s budget, oversee all expenditures for goods, services, and personnel.
  • Provide management oversight for all existing area grants, in consultation and collaboration with the Business Office.

Assorted Responsibilities

  • Remain current in national, regional, and local trends related to academic transfer programs.
  • Develop a technologically integrated environment, in collaboration with Technology Services, that fosters an environment of continuous innovation within a rural community college.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to promote programs within the area.
  • Seek out opportunities for new programs, collaborations, partnerships, and grants in collaboration with the Vice President of Instruction.
  • Lead and support faculty and staff in efforts to promote equity and diversity through instruction and programming.
  • Promote sustainable opportunities for instructional wrap-around services in support of student retention and completion.

Institutional and Community Service

  • Participate on college committees, such as the VPI Leadership Team.
  • Represent WWCC by attending standing meetings of the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC), such as the Articulation & Transfer Council.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship for faculty.
  • Participate in college activities, including Commencement ceremonies.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage the following programs: Arts and Humanities, Math and Education, Social Sciences, Physical, Life, and Sport Sciences, and Honors.
  • Supervise 7-10 program chairs who facilitate and coordinate full-time (30+) faculty reports, in addition to several part-time employees and adjunct faculty.
  • Works in partnership and collaboration with the VPI Leadership Team to ensure cross-disciplinary support for instructional programs.
  • Delegation of tasks, responsibilities, and decisions as appropriate.
 


Budget Authority:

  • Responsible for oversight and delegation for the Academic Transfer area budget.
  • Prepares recommendations for and administers the area budget; oversees expenditures for goods, services, and personnel.
 


Minimum Qualifications
:
At the discretion of the College, equivalent education/experience may substitute.

  • Master's degree in the Humanities, Math, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Computer Sciences, or other applicable disciplines from an accredited institution.
  • Three years’ teaching experience in a higher education setting (full-time or equivalent); teaching experience as a teaching assistant or adjunct instructor may count toward the requirement.
  • Three years’ experience in higher education leadership (Assistant Dean, Department Chair, Director, etc.) or equivalent leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience, passion and commitment for addressing diversity, inclusion, and equity issues and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities, cultures, and viewpoints.
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience teaching in a variety of modalities: in person, online, hybrid, web- or technology-enhanced, synchronous or asynchronous.
  • Proficient in various technology systems, such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Forms), Cloud-based platforms (PeopleSoft, CANVAS).
 

Preferred Qualifications

 
  • Doctorate Degree in Humanities, Math, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Computer Sciences, or other applicable discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Five years’ teaching experience in a higher education setting (full-time or equivalent).
  • Bilingual, especially in Spanish/English.
  • Experience with higher education accreditation, articulation, and program review.
  • Grant and budget management experience.
  • Experience with the Northwest Commission on College and Universities (NWCCU), National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP), and/or NC-SARA reporting and standards.
  • Five years of experience in higher education leadership (Department Chair, Director, etc.).
