Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Financial Reporting and Compliance and the Senior Manager of Accounting and Reporting, the Manager of Accounting supports the Accounting Services Group by managing certain accounting, financial reporting, and tax compliance functions for the University.

 

This role includes the responsibility for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the preparation of timely financial statements, reports, and tax filings.

 

This position may be required to work some evening and weekend hours.

 

Essential Functions        

  • Ensures a timely and accurate quarter-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and interim financial reports.
  • Maintains and reconciles accounting records, including sub-ledgers, documentation, and general ledger allocations. Reviews and reconciles major accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Identifies and implements process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Prepares and presents ad-hoc analyses and reports.
  • Produces clear, accurate, and well-organized documentation to substantiate the work performed.
  • Conducts financial research and analysis to respond to stakeholder inquiries, support critical decisions, and develop actionable recommendations presented effectively in reports.
  • Maintains internal controls to safeguard University assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Provides accounting and financial support to University employees.
  • Prepares internal and external financial reports (monthly, quarterly, and annual) accurately and timely, adhering to quality accounting standards.
  • Prepares footnote disclosures and supporting work papers for the University’s financial statements and annual audit, ensuring U.S. GAAP compliance.

Management Responsibilities  

Supervises the work of other Fordham employees who are individual contributors. Responsible for hiring, training and developing, managing performance and administering corrective action. Has significant input in compensation decisions.

 

Additional Functions      

  • Supports technology upgrades and process enhancements for key tasks and functions.
  • Develops training materials and conducts educational sessions for university employees on process changes.
  • Leads change management efforts in collaboration with Information Technology Services and other university departments.

 

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience        

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in accounting and/or auditing,
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing or supporting accounting services teams.

 

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills     

  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and solve problems.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, practices, internal controls, and computing systems that support efficient financial operations.
  • Proven analytical, financial, and business management skills.
  • Ability to lead, develop, and motivate teams.
  • Skilled at managing, supervising, and developing a diverse team of finance professionals.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Effective project management skills and strong process improvement abilities, with a focus on documenting and streamlining processes.
  • Service-oriented, motivated, and able to promote operational efficiency.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Suite applications, particularly Excel, and competency with Google tools and other relevant systems.
  • Ability to implement effective data management practices to ensure accuracy, integrity, and timely accessibility for decision-making and reporting.
  • Ability to research and apply relevant technical standards and technologies.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in accounting for non-profit organizations.
  • CPA designation is a plus.
  • Public accounting experience.
  • Familiarity with ASC 842 Lease Accounting Standard.

 

Minimum Starting Salary: $100,000

 

Maximum Starting Salary: $110,000

 

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
